HAPPY Program Diaries: From 'Drugstore' Attendant to Poultry Supervisor

Faustina Antwinewaa, a resilient young woman from Dormaa Ahenkro, is living proof that with the right opportunity, lives can be transformed.

Once a pharmacy shop attendant struggling to make ends meet, Faustina now supervises a 15,000-bird broiler operation at GINAACO Farms—all thanks to the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program.

Introduced by the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited, the HAPPY Program equipped Faustina with practical knowledge and hands-on training in poultry production.

Before joining the program, she had no experience in agriculture, let alone poultry.

Today, she confidently manages a team of five farmworkers—three women and two men—and oversees critical operations in the brooding house, including feeding systems and chick management.

“The program taught me everything I know about poultry,” she shares. “From handling day-old chicks to using drinkers and feeders—I can now run a poultry farm on my own.”

Beyond skills, the impact on Faustina’s livelihood has been profound. She now earns a stable income that allows her to provide for her child, save regularly, and live independently.

“I used to struggle to buy basic things for myself and my child. Now, I can take care of us and still save money before the end of the month,” she says with pride. “I no longer depend on anyone.”

"The program has truly transformed my life. Thank you to the HAPPY Program, Mastercard Foundation, and Agri-Impact Limited for this incredible opportunity," he concluded.

Faustina’s story highlights the power of agricultural training to unlock dignified and fulfilling work for young women in rural Ghana.

Her transformation is not just personal—it’s a beacon of what’s possible when youth are empowered with knowledge, confidence, and opportunity.
