Agri-Impact Group Board of Directors holds strategic meeting to review progress and future plans

The Board of Directors of Agri-Impact Group Limited convened for its annual meeting last week at the Peninsula Resort in Akosombo, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

This strategic gathering provided the board with an opportunity to review the performance of Agri-Impact Group and its subsidiaries—Agri-Impact Limited, Fresh Logistics, and ASNAPP—over the past year.

The meeting also served as a platform to reflect on key lessons learned and discuss strategic plans for the upcoming year.

Update on HAPPY Program

Since December 2023, the company has been implementing the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program, an initiative of the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited.
The program aims to provide 326,000 young people aged 15–35 (70% women) with dignified and fulfilling work opportunities within the rice, poultry, tomato, and soya value chains.

The program is being implemented by a consortium of eight partners, led by Agri-Impact Limited.

The partners include NewAge Agric Solutions, Catholic Relief Services, Ghana CARES, the National Service Authority, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, TechnoServe, and Jobberman.

Since its commencement in December 2023, the HAPPY Program has created work opportunities for over 94,000 youth across Ghana, with rice value chain accounting for about 80% of these opportunities.  NewAge Agric Solutions has led the charge managing extensive outgrower schemes, facilitating access to Program supported starter packs, capacity building, market linkages and fostering ecosystem growth for young agripreneurs within the rice value chain.

Field trip

Prior to the official meeting, board members toured Agri-Impact’s flagship greenhouse farm at Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region.

This facility empowers young people to manage greenhouse operations that produce nutritious and healthy vegetables, thereby creating jobs and reducing the country’s import bill.

These vegetables are marketed by Fresh Logistics, a subsidiary of Agri-Impact.

Additionally, the board visited AgroKings, an anchor partner under Ghana CARES, within the Kasunya Economic Enclave in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.
During the visit to AgroKings, Chief Farmer Nana Owusu-Achau provided an in-depth overview of the company’s operations and highlighted the positive impact of the HAPPY Program on its activities.

“AgroKings spans a 10,000-acre lot, and we are constantly expanding. Our goal is to add 150 hectares next year. As part of the HAPPY Program, we actively involve young farmers and interns, offering them hands-on experience,” said Nana Owusu-Achau.

The farm is equipped with a robust irrigation system, developed in part with support from the Ghana CARES under the enclave initiative. The support has also improved road access to the area, helped develop rice production fields and assisted ingrower schemes.

Board meeting

In addition to the farm visits, the board meeting featured a comprehensive presentation from PwC on industry best practices.

This was followed by an insightful training session on corporate governance aimed at strengthening the board’s strategic oversight and enhancing the management team’s operational effectiveness.

The session, tailored for both the board of directors and the management team, was expertly delivered by Kwadwo Mpeani Brantuo, a retired partner at EY (Ernst & Young) and a member of the board.

Expressing his gratitude, Daniel Fahene Acquaye, Founder and CEO of Agri-Impact Group, thanked the board for their valuable feedback.

He encouraged them to remain engaged in the company’s vision and continue contributing their expertise as the business progresses.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Richard Akromah, Chairman of the Agri-Impact Group Board of Directors, urged both the board and management to remain proactive and focused.

He stressed the need to avoid complacency and emphasized the importance of uncovering new business opportunities and ensuring the timely delivery of projects with continued commitment and excellence.
