From Student to Startup

As an MPhil student in Landscape Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Gloria Obodia never imagined herself as an entrepreneur. But through the EHAPPY Program, she discovered not just digital skills—but a new vision for her future.

EHAPPY, a footprint of the broader HAPPY Program, is an initiative of Mastercard Foundation in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited. The program equips young people with digital tools and entrepreneurial mindsets to support agribusinesses and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana.

Gloria first heard about the program from a friend who had benefited from the first cohort. Motivated by her love for learning, she enrolled.

“I joined the EHAPPY Program to gain new skills,” Gloria shares. “We were trained in tools like Power BI, Canva, and Bstack. But the biggest impact on me wasn’t just the software—it was the shift in my mindset.”

Before EHAPPY, Gloria planned to pursue a conventional path in the public sector after graduation. But the program sparked something new: the spirit of entrepreneurship.

“I never considered being an entrepreneur,” she explains. “But during the program, it dawned on me that I could start something of my own.”

Drawing on a talent she had overlooked—floral arrangement—Gloria launched a small bouquet business. She used Valentine’s Day as her first opportunity, partnering with a friend who makes pastries to create customized gift packages. To her surprise, she doubled her initial capital.

Since then, word of her work has spread. Gloria has received more orders, including a recent gig to design a bouquet for a marriage proposal.

“I’m so proud of myself. EHAPPY didn’t just teach me tools—it gave me the confidence to act on my ideas. I’m truly grateful to the EHAPPY Program, Mastercard Foundation, and Agri-Impact Limited for the opportunity.”

Gloria’s story is a powerful example of how digital tools + entrepreneurial mindset = real impact. Through EHAPPY, she’s not just gaining skills—she’s building a future.
