The importance of quality education cannot be overlooked in any society that is focused on effective human capital development and sustainable growth. Fundamental to the human development agenda is a strengthened academia– industry relation to make graduates more relevant to industry, and the Universities more responsive to national and global issues.
As part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of KNUST under the theme “KNUST: 70 Years of Global Impact; a New Age for a Renewed Focus", the Vice-Chancellor held a panel discussion themed “academia -Industry relations “.
The forum drew distinguished men and women from Industry and Academia to the Great Hall of the University to dialogue on the ways to bridge the gap between academia and the world of work.
It was an interactive and educative discussion. One of the brains on the panel, Mr. Dan Acquaye, the CEO of Agri-Impact Consult urged the university to take on national issues, strengthen and leverage on their networks to mobilize both human and financial resources.
He stressed on the importance of the university facilitating purposeful internships to enhance students’ exposure to industry and build confidence. He also touched on the need to guide the attitude of students since it is a critical consideration in the workplace.
The panelists expressed their readiness to support graduates in their chosen fields by providing internships, mentoring and employment opportunities. Other members of the panel were Mrs. Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Vodafone Ghana, Hon. Edward Boateng, Former Ghanaian ambassador to China, Mr Eric Osei, President of MedTech Chamber Africa, alumni of KNUST, as well as all provosts of the 7 colleges of the university.
