About 50 young women have received intensive training in broiler production under the Harnessing Agriculture Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Program, a collaborative initiative between the Mastercard Foundation and Agri-Impact Limited.
The trainees, mobilized by the National Service Authority (NSA), gathered at the NSA Farm in Papao, Haatso, for an intensive session on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
This latest cohort brings the total number of women trained in broiler production at the facility in the past two weeks to 80.
Designed to equip participants with essential technical and practical skills, the training was led by Dr. Dennis Owusu Adjei, Poultry Lead, and Mr. Ricky Aboagye-Poku, Assistant Project Lead at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture's Animal Production Directorate.
As part of its commitment to expanding Ghana’s poultry industry, the NSA is constructing a 100,000-capacity bird facility at Papao, with a 20,000-capacity unit already operational.
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the NSA took a significant step forward by receiving 10,000 day-old chicks at its Papao farms, marking a major milestone in the Poultry Value Chain Component of the project.
Since the launch of the HAPPY Project, the NSA has played a key role in transforming Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
Under the initiative, the NSA aims to produce 1.5 million birds while building the capacity of National Service Personnel and community youth, equipping them with the skills needed to transition into agribusiness and sustainable employment.
The HAPPY (Harnessing Agriculture Productivity and Prosperity for Youth) Program is a four-year partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and Agri-Impact Limited, aiming to create 326,000 dignified work opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
The program places a strong focus on young women and persons with disabilities, with interventions spanning the rice, soybean, tomato, and poultry value chains.
Targeting youth aged 15 to 35, the program is implemented by an eight-member consortium, including Newage Agric Solutions, the National Service Authority, Ghana CARES (MiDA), Ghana Enterprises Agency, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, TechnoServe, Catholic Relief Services, and Jobberman.
Since its rollout in December 2023, the program has already generated over 138,000 job opportunities in just 15 months, marking a significant breakthrough in youth employment and agribusiness development.
