At Walewale in the North East Region, 150 young women successfully completed intensive training in the rice processing value chain, equipping them with practical skills to participate meaningfully in agribusiness. The training marked a critical step in preparing participants to transition from learning to earning.

Following this, the participants received start-up kits to support the establishment and growth of their businesses. The distribution was not just a handover of items, but a deliberate investment in livelihoods, designed to help the young women apply their skills, generate income, and build sustainable enterprises.

The intervention forms part of the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) Project, an initiative of the Mastercard Foundation, implemented in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited and a consortium of eight partners, including the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA).

The training and support led by GEA reflect a broader commitment to expanding opportunities for young people, particularly women, and promoting inclusive economic development through agriculture.

During the distribution ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of GEA, Ms Margaret Ansei, encouraged participants to view the kits as productive assets rather than just tools.

“These start-up kits are not just tools; they are productive assets. When protected, valued, and strategically utilized, they become instruments for income generation, enterprise growth, and community development.”

She expressed appreciation to the GEA team, trainers, and the HAPPY Project consortium, especially the Mastercard Foundation and Agri-Impact Limited, for their dedication and collaboration.

In addition to the GEA CEO, the event was attended by officials of the West Mamprusi District Assembly, as well as chiefs and opinion leaders from Walewale, alongside other dignitaries.
